Some of Hollywood’s elite and "trend setters" in
their own right came out to help raise money benefitting the EDMC
Education Foundation. The Foundation was established for the
purpose of assisting students of The Art Institutes and Argosy
University by raising money for Scholarships for students interested
in arts, design, culinary arts, fashion, business and psychology.
The audience will be treated
to a showcase of television’s
rich history through fashion, depicting the impact of clothing
styles from TV’s
early days to today’s
successful programs. The evening will highlight individual show
contributions to today’s
apparel empire. Selected graduates will design garments specific to
shows that influenced both trendy and timeless apparel, from
"Leave it to Beaver" to "The Mary Tyler Moore
Show" to "Dynasty" to "Sex and the City."
Here are some quotes of the stars:
Dawn Wells, who not only looked great on "Gilligan’s
Island," but could make a hell of a coconut cream pie: "I
remember the controversy over my belly button at the time, obviously
that's not a problem anymore." ~ Dawn Wells
June Lockhart From Lassie to Lost in Space, and Petticoat
Junction. Lockhart reminded us, "Hula-hoops and coonskin caps
were in style. Our favorite word was "cool" and gas was
20-cents a gallon."
Lindsay Wagner, the Emmy-winning BIONIC WOMAN, reflected on the 70s
and had this to say "Disco was hot, Grown-ups actually
uttered the phrase "nanoo-nanoo" in public, and Elvis
really did leave the building."
Donna Mills and Joan Van Ark brought glamour into the Knots
Landing cul-de-sac in the 80s. Van Ark recalls of the 80s, "President
Reagan declared war on drugs, ET phoned home, and Kermit didn't find
it easy to be green."
Of her nude illusion dress with embroidered peacock feathers, by
Jeran Design, Ms. Mills said, "Well, if the feathers hadn't
fallen in exactly the right place, I wouldn't have been able to wear
this."
JR ’s
nemesis and Picket Fences Emmy Winner, Leigh Taylor Young mentioned
that the 90’s
style was "truly the electronic age." "The World
Wide Web entered our lives - bringing new meaning to olds words like
mouse, hardware, net, and spam. A lot of time was wasted on Bill and
Monica, but we didn’t
care because the stock market was so strong. Even the Grunge look
became its own fashion statement. Tattoos and body piercing were all
over, if you get my drift. And TV was pushing the envelope."
Matt Cedeno the perfect choice to talk about the new millennium…
"Can you hear me
now?" 9-11 has taken on new meaning and redefined our heroes.
Harry Potter hit the big screen, Streisand got married, and reality
TV dominates the evening airwaves. Fashion in the New Millennium is
becoming more daring."
"The Bushes are back in office and there’s still no cure .
. . . . for Aids."
