Two Icons Lost On
Thursday, June 25 the world lost to icons. Farrah Fawcett & Michael
Jackson!
Farrah Fawcett, 62 who had been
fighting cancer for over 2 years subcommand to the disease. Fawcett was
best know for her role as Jill Munroe on the hit 70s series, "Charlie's Angels"
and the "red bathing suite" poster which sold over 12 million copies. She
went to star on Broadway and won critical acclaim in "Extremities" She also did
the film based on the play and "The Burning Bed". Fawcett was survived by her
son, Redmond O'Neal and her father, Jim Fawcett.
Michael Jackson, 50 died of a
full
cardiac arrest
there has been a cloud on how he died. Today it was found that Jackson had taken
a narcotic painkiller before he collapsed. No official
determination of what killed "the King of Pop." Jackson was apart of the
Jackson 5 until he went out on his own which he took the world by stormed
with huge songs as "Billy Jean," "Beat It," and "Thriller." His life off
the stage was front page news from his marriage to Lisa Marie Presley, dangling
one of his kids off a balcony to allegations of child abuse. Jackson is
survived by his three kids.
After all is said and done, we
will remember each icon for their talents, Michael Jackson for his songs
and that "moon" dance and Fararh Fawcett for being an "Angel" on earth.
This is a truly sad day for the world.

“If I Could Be
Anything, I’d be a Good Father” By
President Barack Obama for
PARADE
Two days before the
inauguration, PARADE published a letter from Barack Obama to his daughters about
what he hoped for them and all the children of America. The letter attracted
international attention. On this Father’s Day, PARADE asked the President to
reflect on what fatherhood means to him. Here is an excerpt of the original
piece written by President Obama, which appears in full in this Sunday’s issue
of PARADE. I observe this Father’s Day not just
as a father grateful to be present in my daughters’ lives but also as a son who
grew up without a father in my own life.
In many ways, I
came to understand the importance of fatherhood through its absence—both in my
life and in the lives of others. I came to understand that the hole a man leaves
when he abandons his responsibility to his children is one that no government
can fill. We can do everything possible to provide good jobs and good schools
and safe streets for our kids, but it will never be enough to fully make up the
difference.
We need fathers
to step up, to realize that their job does not end at conception; that what
makes you a man is not the ability to have a child but the courage to raise one.
I know I have
been an imperfect father. I know I have made mistakes. I have lost count of all
the times, over the years, when the demands of work have taken me from the
duties of fatherhood. There were many days out on the campaign trail when I felt
like my family was a million miles away, and I knew I was missing moments of my
daughters’ lives that I’d never get back. It is a loss I will never fully
accept.
On this
Father’s Day, I think about the pledge I made to Malia the day she was born:
that I would give her what I never had—that if I could be anything in life, I
would be a good father.

Scott Caan's LIFE.com gallery Scott
Caan – actor, director, writer – added yet another title to his resume:
published photographer. “Scott Caan Photographs Vol. 1” is a collection of
his work since 2003, when he was directing the film “Dallas 362” and his father,
legendary actor James, gave him a vintage camera for his birthday.
“It sort of changed my whole perspective on
making movies. My original approach [to directing] was to just get a good
cinematographer and deal with the actors mostly, but after I started taking
pictures, it couldn’t have been more of a 180,” says Caan, who admits he’s
developed an “obsession with frames.” The new book includes shots from Caan’s
travels to Amsterdam, Cuba, and the Deep South, but for this exclusive excerpt
on LIFE, the photographer offers his insider’s perspective on that rarefied
place he may know best: the world of celebrity.
Funnyman
Conan O’Brien
O'Brien
graces the cover of
PARADE Magazine this weekend and guess what? Conan admits he
thinks he’s funny! “I think I have some natural ability—I think I’m a funny
person,” he tells PARADE “I knew I had something to offer as a performer, but I
was very realistic about what I didn’t have. I knew I wasn’t good-looking enough
to be, you know, sort of a handsome lead actor.”
O’Brien also dishes on his new job, his old job and much more. Check out a few
highlights...
On his new job, taking over NBC’s
The Tonight Show... “It’s a huge responsibility. But I can’t let that be in my head all the
time. The biggest danger to me right now would be overthinking. When I am
comfortable and having a good time, it works. I think that, at my best, I’m just
a silly man having fun.”
On getting choked up when his show ended in February.... “I think I was feeling what a lot of people feel when they go to a place to
do work for a long period of time, and then they have to leave,” he tells
PARADE. “That show—which, by the way, was the scariest thing that I’ve ever
undertaken—changed my life and gave me so much. Most of the people that I’m
closest to in my life work on that show. I met my wife through that show, and we
have children now.”

America’s Got Talent which premieres Tuesday, June 23 (9-11p.m. ET)
Jackman on Parade
In
this Sunday's issue of
PARADE magazine, Hugh
Jackman goes on record about the gay rumors that have followed him
around. Despite his obviously close relationship with his wife, whispers have
persisted since he played
Peter Allen that Jackman himself might be gay. “I’d be happy to go and
deny it, because I’m not. But by denying it, I’m saying there is something
shameful about it, and there isn’t anything shameful. The questions about
sexuality I find more here in America than anywhere else, because it’s a big
hang-up and defines what people think about themselves and others. It’s not a
big issue in Australia,” he tells Contributing Editor
Kevin Sessums in PARADE.
Trouble The Water on HBO The
day before Hurricane Katrina hit, 24-year-old Kimberly Rivers Roberts, a
resident of
New Orleans ’ 9th Ward, turned her new video camera on herself,
declaring, “It’s going to be a day to remember.” With hardly any supplies and
no way of leaving her hometown, Roberts taped her harrowing ordeal as Katrina
raged and the levees failed. Directed and produced by Tia Lessin and Carl Deal,
TROUBLE THE WATER opens with this unforgettable home video footage, then follows
Kimberly and her husband Scott on a two-year odyssey – from the devastation of
the storm to their escape from the city, to resettlement in Memphis, to an
eventual return to a decimated
New Orleans – telling a story of transformation, heroism and love.
Trouble The Water,
a recent Oscar® nominee for Best Documentary Feature, the film debuts THURSDAY,
APRIL 23 (8:30-10:15 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO.
Michael J. Fox on Larry King Actor/author
MICHAEL J. FOX appears tonight on
CNN’s Larry King Live discussing
his new book AlwaysLooking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable
Optimist, and his struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
MICHAEL J.
FOX ON OPTIMISM AND PARKINSON’S DISEASE
KING: How about bad days?
FOX: I have bad days, but
again, I have to separate how I feel, physically, from how I feel emotionally.
Allowing that a lot of people who have Parkinson’s deal with clinical depression
– that’s a completely different issue. You have to put that aside. And you can’t
jolly your way out of that. I mean, that’s really – it takes some serious
dealing with.
But, absent that, just if I have a bad day physically, it might disappoint me
that therefore I can’t do something that I want to do. I can’t do it the way and
in the timeframe that I want to do it.
But it’s easy for me to just go, well, that’s how my body feels, that’s not how
I feel. There’s other things I can do. And it’ll come around.
Tune in Tonight,Tuesday April 7 on CNN.

TV Guide's Sexiest Issue!
TV
Guide Magazine
reveals the definitive “who’s who” of sexy in its annual Sexiest Stars
issue—and, nabbing top honors this year for Sexiest Female Star and Sexiest Male
Star are Eva Longoria Parker and Simon Baker. Stay tuned for more from TV Guide
Magazine’s Sexiest Stars issue, on newsstands May 26th.
Desperate Housewives dish Eva Longoria Parker has landed on the cover of
the Sexiest Stars issue in a year when the show made her look as frumpy as
possible (no small feat!). The Texas-born actress takes her Sexiest Female Star
title with pride, and also in stride: “I think the timing for this is pretty
funny actually, but also really great,” says Longoria Parker.
The Mentalist star Simon Baker ranks No. 1 this year as Sexiest Male
Star. Ask the Australia-born Baker – with twinkly blue eyes and a scampish smile
– how it feels to be on the cover of TV Guide Magazine as an object of desire
and he’ll hem and haw: “I’m from a working-class family and, first and foremost,
my role in life is to be a husband, father and provider – not a star and
certainly not a sex symbol,” says Baker—proving that nothing is sexier than a
devilishly handsome family man.
A-Rod Confessions
Yankee
slugger Alex Rodriguez sat down with DETAILS magazine just hours before the
steroids scandal broke wide open. Despite being confronted by SI about steroids,
what was the biggest concern on A-Rod’s mind? A Madonna song he mentioned to our
writer, Jason Gay. DETAILS plunges into the psyche of A-Rod as the
scandal of a lifetime was about to be revealed and what he must do to recover.
“We live in a world right now where everyone’s keeping score. And it doesn’t
stop when the games end...They’ve crossed over. And you have the Internet stuff,
and all these phones...It’s very intense.” - Alex Rodriguez
“New York is one of a kind. It’s made me ask all the tough questions. It’s
brought out the best in me. There are some
things
I have to work on. And that part is fun. Revealing the truth about yourself is
always good.”
A-Rod on Madonna: “Well, we’re friends...I have a lot of respect for her...She’s
very smart and she’s passionate about everything she does...if there ever was
any situation, she’s a great ear to have, you know?”
