Harry Potter 5
Principal
photography will commence February 6 at Leavesden Studios on Harry Potter and
the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's
beloved Harry Potter novel series. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma
Watson reprise their roles as close-knit teen wizards Harry Potter, Ron Weasley
and Hermione Granger.
Joining the stellar cast are
Imelda Staunton as Dolores Umbridge, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts
teacher; George Harris as Kingsley Shacklebolt; Helen McCrory as Bellatrix
Lestrange; Natalia Tena as Nymphadora Tonks; Kathryn Hunter as Mrs. Figg;
and 14 year-old newcomer Evanna Lynch, who beat over 15,000 hopefuls at an open
casting call to win the role of Luna Lovegood, a Ravenclaw student who becomes
an important ally of Harry, Ron and Hermione's.
In
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry returns for his fifth
year of study at Hogwarts and discovers that much of the wizarding community is
in denial about the teenager's recent encounter with the evil Lord Voldemort,
preferring to turn a blind eye to the news that Voldemort has returned. Fearing
that Hogwarts' venerable Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is lying about
Voldemort's return in order to undermine his power and take his job, the
Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, appoints a new Defense Against the Dark
Arts teacher to keep watch over Dumbledore and the Hogwarts students. But
Professor Dolores Umbridge's Ministry-approved course of defensive magic leaves
the young wizards woefully unprepared to defend themselves against the dark
forces threatening them and the entire wizarding community, so at the prompting
of his friends Hermione and Ron, Harry takes matters into his own hands. Meeting
secretly with a small group of students who name themselves "Dumbledore's Army,"
Harry teaches them how to defend themselves against the Dark Arts, preparing the
courageous young wizards for the extraordinary battle that lies ahead. The
film will open in 2007.

Glory Road
Opening
this weekend, Friday Jan 13 is the new film Glory Road starring Josh Lucas.
The
film tells the story based on the inspiring true story of the underdog Texas
Western basketball team whose drive to win superseded some of the most bruising
and difficult challenges during a point in U.S. history of massive cultural and
philosophical turmoil. It was a time when, against all odds, the first all
African American starting lineup of players took the country by storm and, in a
surprise turn of events, won the 1966 NCAA tournament title. Josh Lucas stars as
Hall of Famer Don Haskins, the passionately dedicated college basketball coach
that changed the history of basketball and, in turn, helped change the course of
history.

First Descent Beings Friday
The documentary
First Descent chronicles the rebellious, inspiring and sometimes controversial rise of snowboarding—as seen through the eyes of the snowboarders setting the standards and breaking the boundaries of this worldwide phenomenon.
First Descent spotlights a handful of snowboarding’s early pioneers (including Shawn Farmer, Nick Perata and Terje Haakonsen) and some of the ultra-sponsored superstar phenoms at snowboarding’s current cutting edge (Shaun White and Hannah Teter) and literally takes them to the edge—the snow blanketed mountains of Alaska—where these five icons face some of the most challenging and hard-core natural terrain on the planet. The five come for different reasons—Perata and Farmer to see if they still have what it takes, Haakonsen to add another credit to his Big Mountain resume, and White and Teter to undertake their first Big Mountain ride ever—and yet all seek to challenge themselves to accomplish the best snowboarding feat of their lives down peaks of powder no rider has ever descended.

Decent opens in

Silverman
Is Magic
Sarah Silverman, who has been compared to the legendary Lenny Bruce, is known as one
of the funniest and most provocative people in comedy.
Despite the current political climate, in
JESUS IS MAGIC she takes on
such pitch-black topics as September 11th, unwanted body hair, and
the Holocaust, and spins them into decidedly un-politically correct comedic
gold. As she says in the film, "When God gives you AIDS, (and God does
give you AIDS, by the way) make LemonAIDS."

The
Ice Harvest (opens Nov 23)
It’s Christmas Eve in rainy,
icebound Wichita, Kansas, and this year Charlie
Arglist (John Cusack) just might have something to celebrate. Charlie, an
attorney for the sleazy businesses of Wichita, and his unsavory associate, the
steely Vic Cavenaugh (Billy Bob Thornton), have just successfully embezzled
$2,147,000 from Kansas City boss Bill Guerrard (Randy Quaid).
Even
so, the real prize for Charlie would be the stunning Renata (Connie Nielsen),
who runs the Sweet Cage strip club. Charlie’s fondest Christmas wish is
to slip out of town with Renata. But, as daylight fades and a storm
whirls, everyone from Charlie’s drinking buddy Pete Van Heuten (Oliver Platt)
to the local police begin to wonder just what exactly is in Charlie’s
Christmas stocking. For Charlie, the 12 hours of Christmas Eve are filled
with nonstop twists and turns, both on the ice and off.
Pride &
Prejudice Opens Nov 11
The glorious world of Jane Austen is at last brought back to the big screen in
all its romance, wit and emotional force in Pride
& Prejudice. Faithful to the setting and period of the
beloved novel and filmed entirely on location in the U.K., this is the first
movie version of the story in 65 years.
The classic
tale of love and misunderstanding unfolds in class-conscious England near the
close of the 18th century. The five Bennet sisters –
Elizabeth, or Lizzie (Keira Knightley), Jane (Rosamund Pike), Lydia (Jena
Malone), Mary (Talulah Riley) and Kitty (Carey Mulligan) – have been raised
well aware of their mother’s (Brenda Blethyn) fixation on finding them
husbands and securing set futures. The spirited and intelligent Elizabeth,
however, strives to live her life with a broader perspective, as encouraged by
her doting father (Donald Sutherland).
Release
date: November 11 (30 markets) & November 30 (wide)
