Streisand’s "Christmas Memories" A True Classic
Reviewd by Mike Pingel, HollywoodFYI.com
Barbra Streisand has just released Christmas Memories, her follow up CD to her 5x platinum album A Christmas Album which was released thirty-four years ago.
With Christmas Memories, once again Streisand has captured the spirit of the holidays with a
mixture of elegantly chosen songs. Which in turn will surely make this CD a cherished holiday classic. In the best Streisand style - the majority of the album was recorded live with a 90-piece orchestra, which brings a full yuletide feel to the songs and her
legendary voice.
"I'll be home for Christmas," "Christmas Lullaby," "It must have been the Mistletoe,"
"What are you Doing New Year's Eve?," and "Grown -Up Mem'ries." are just a few of the
wonderfully mixture of new and old favorites she has recorded for this special release.
Streisand also includes Stephen Sondheim's "I Remember" which originally was a non-holiday
composition, which on Streisand's request Sondheim went back and
re-created the song as a remembrance of Christmas past.
Once again, Streisand has re-recorded "Ava Maria," which she originally had
recorded on her 1967 album.
For her updated version of "Ave Maria", Streisand selected the melody written by Austrian composer
Franz Schubert in 1825. "Ave Maria" once again turns out to be one of the albums most sensational editions.
If you are like me, you have loved Streisand's first Christmas album
for many years. Barbra Streisand has done it again - Christmas
Memories is sure to be one of your Holiday CD favorites for years
to come!
Christmas Memories is aviable in stores now.
